The PIMS CMS Engineering module provides an effective platform for the data population of engineering registers. Typical registers include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cable Schedule
- Equipment Register
- HVAC
- Instrument Index

Data population
In essence the engineering module is developed and optimized to administer the interface between PIMS CMS and external engineering sources and to handle engineering changes. PIMS CMS is a scalable product and has been implemented to handle major projects/corporate installations, stand alone projects as well as smaller maintenances jobs. Based on the project scenario and the client, the pattern for data loading might be the following:
- Major projects and corporate installations : Automatic import from external databases (engineering data warehouses) and file imports
- Standalone projects: File imports and some external database interfaces
- Small projects and Maintenance jobs: File imports and direct input (with validation in PIMS CMS)
Engineering data import wizard
For import of engineering data, PIMS CMS comes with a user friendly import wizard which allows import of all tags with relevant information such as subsystem and engineering attributes. Typical file formats like Excel, Access and CSV are supported. The import wizard will guide the user through the import step by step, and identify changes on a tag by tag and field by field basis. Based on the mapping setup, each field in each table is checked and both old and new values are displayed if different. A full version history is saved and field mapping and setup gets stored to subsequent imports. Some of the main features of the import wizard includes:
- Support for excel, access and csv files
- Full version history of changes and files
- Dynamic field mapping
- Tag validation and duplication reports
- Configuration for new revisions
- Intelligent handling of foreign key constraints
- Follow up tag discrepancies by raising new query

Automatic import from other engineering systems
For major projects and corporate installations it can be advantages to set up interfaces to external engineering systems. Setting up routines to automatically population populate the completion system can give you great advantages. Additionally, PIMS CMS can be set up to export actual data to project planning system and maintenance systems. External interfaces are typically implemented by a PIMS CMS engineer during the project setup phase.
